Emerging Technologies

There are many new technologies that will be emerging this year, 2012. One of the ten major technologies that will emerge into something extrordinary is Light-Field photography which is simply a camera that allows you to create 3D images and refocues the picture once you have taken it no matter what distance the object was from the camera. Images from Lytro cameras can be shared on the internet such as facebook and it allows other people to experiement what the photographer can do. Many inferences can be made about the new technologies but the main one in my opinion is that they are getting smaller but are able to create something extrordinary or something that no one would ever thing was possible. What surprised me the most was that the camera is so small and that after the picture was taken you could refocuse it on something completely different and it would turn out like you shot it with an $1,000 camera. Even make a 3D image now that is crazy. Honestly anything can be possible for the Michigan and Ohio areas. Whatever we create can either change us for the good or completely take us down. In 2009 they created an software assistant that will help people not only look up information but complete tasks and still in 2012 they continue to improve it and make it better.

Theodore Roosevelt

In 1913 Theodore Roosevelt ran for his third presidency term as a third party candidate. During the campaign he gave a speech that would be the last of his political career and he started off with this, “Friends, perhaps once in a generation, perhaps not so often, there comes a chance for the people of a country to play their part wisely and fearlessly in some great battle of the age-long warfare for human rights.”  On November 5, 1913 Roosevelt lost the election. Shortly after, he had gotten an invitation to go to Buenos Aires, Argentina to further explore the River of Doubt.  Theodore thought that this would be a perfect chance to see his son and he thought that it would prove his strength. In December 1913 Theodore Roosevelt, his son Kermit, Cherrie, Candido Rondon (Britain’s most famous explorer), and four Brazilians left for Argentina.
The expedition was nothing like they thought it was going to be, it was so much worse. They had to abandon their canoes, they lost many pack mules and oxen from starvation and exhaustion which forced them to leave crates filled with supplies. Everyone ended up suffering from the stinging and biting of insects, vicious fevers, and malaria. Colonel Rondon ended up getting attacked by tribesmen known as Cinta Larga while he was hunting one day and killed his dog. They lost a man to the deadly rapids of the river. Roosevelt spent that whole journey in constant fear that he would lose his life and his son’s life. In April 1914 they were rescued, everyone but three men survived the cruel expedition. They had nearly mapped out 1,000 miles of the River of Doubt which was later named Rio Roosevelt along with a branch of the river which was named Rio Kermit. Later that year Theodore wrote a book called “Through the Brazilian Wilderness” which explains his journey.

Identity Theft

What mistakes did this woman make to have her identity stolen?

She avoided using credit cards whenever possible. So she ended up using her debit card for purchases big and small. That way, she has reasoned, she is spending money she actually has. When she wanted to indulge in a new purse or treat a friend to dinner or buy a latte, she would whip out the debit card.
Why do you feel ID Theft is such a common problem these days?
I feel identity theft is such a common problem because so many people give out there information for god knows what and not knowing what kind of person is taking their information. So you could be talking to someone on the phone about a house and you give your information for a loan, how do you know that the person you are talking to is the right person
What type of documents or personal belongings would someone have to obtain to steal a person’s identity? They would have to get the person’s credit card number, social security number, where they live, there full name, height, age, physical appearance (hair and eye color), phone number.
What are some ideas that you would suggest to someone to protect their identity from being stolen?
Some ideas I would give would be, don’t give out your information over the phone, don’t buy things online, and be careful what you talk about when you’re around other people.
Who do you think is to blame, the person stealing the identity, or the person who is not protecting themselves from identity theft? The person I would blame would definitely be the person who is not protecting themselves.

Traffic Model Uses Human Reason to Understand Crashes

Researchers in Israel have created a traffic-modeling tool that predicts how drivers and pedestrians will react to surrounding events. The simulator could enable city planners and engineers to design safer roads and fix regulation problems.

3D Pico Projectors Grow at Double Digits

As sizes shrink down to palm-size pico projectors, and with a new injection of interest from 3D, double-digit market growth in projectors offers a beacon of hope that global economic uncertainty cannot dim.
Despite worldwide economic volatility, the growing markets for pico-size projectors as well as growing interest in 3D will enable double-digit growth for front projectors from 2011 to 2015, according to Pacific Media Associates.
