HOW LONG YOU HAVE COPYRIGHTS
For works created after January 1, 1978, copyright protection is extended during the author’s life plus an additional 70 years after the author’s death.Works registered before 1/1/1978 -95 years from the date copyright was secured. Works registered before 1/1/1923 - Copyright protection for 75 years has expired and these works are in the public domain.
COPYRIGHT TO MUSIC AND LYRICS
Having copyright to music or lyrics means that Copyright gives legal protection to certain kinds of creative work. National law in most countries protects copyright. Other people don’t have rights to the song unless they are granted or acquire them.
PUBLIC DOMAIN
Works published in the United States with a copyright date of 1922 or earlier are in the public domain in the United States.
